If you are buying wholesale dog collars from China for the first time, this is the playbook I wish someone had handed me thirteen years ago when I founded Heyri Pet. In the next 4,500 words I will walk you through:
The 8 verification steps that separate a real manufacturer from a trading company
Realistic MOQ (50 / 200 / 500 pieces) and how to negotiate them down legitimately
2026 wholesale price benchmarks for velvet, corduroy, plaid, leather, and printed dog collars
The full sample-to-bulk timeline so you can plan launches without surprises
DDP shipping math, Section 301 tariff exposure, and customs documents
A 20-question due-diligence checklist you can copy/paste and send to any supplier today
I am Ms. Rye Xie, CEO of Shenzhen Heyri Pet Technology Co., Ltd. We have shipped to 800+ wholesale buyers, Amazon FBA sellers, boutique pet stores in 40+ countries, and ODM private-label brands since 2013. Everything below is operational truth from inside the factory floor — not theory.
Every week our sales desk gets the same opening question: "How do I know your factory is real?" It's a fair question. China sources more than 60% of the world's pet accessories, but the supply landscape is also full of resellers who buy from one Yiwu market stall, dress up an Alibaba page, and call themselves a "factory."
I built Heyri to be the opposite — vertically integrated cutting, sewing, QC, and packaging across our Shenzhen headquarters and Dongguan production base, with our own patented fabrics (CN/EU/UK protection) and certifications stacked (SGS, REACH, ROHS, GRS). This article exists because buyers who arrive informed get better products at fairer prices, and that is good for the entire industry.
So I will not just promote Heyri. I will give you the criteria, and then you can apply them to anyone.
There are four tiers of suppliers selling dog collars from China, and the price-quality-risk tradeoffs are radically different.
Owns or controls fabric weaving, cutting, sewing, hardware sourcing, QC, packaging
Has factory certifications: BSCI, SGS, ISO, plus product certifications (REACH/RoHS/GRS)
Holds design patents (we hold 10+ in CN/EU/UK)
Typical MOQ: 50–500 pieces per SKU depending on customization tier
Lead time: 15–30 days for stock fabric, 35–45 days for fully custom
Best for: serious wholesale buyers, Amazon private label, ODM brands, EU boutiques
Sews under contract for Tier A factories, may also sell direct
Smaller MOQ (often 30–100 pieces) but inconsistent QC, no in-house testing
Rarely holds certifications in their own name
Best for: small dropshippers willing to accept variance
Aggregates from multiple workshops, marks up 15–35%
Useful if you want a one-stop shop across multiple categories (collars + carriers + bowls)
Risk: communication delay, blame-shifting on QC issues, no traceability
Best for: buyers who prioritize convenience over margin
Sources from Yiwu, Guangzhou markets, repackages, sells via online B2B
Lowest barrier, highest variance, no certification in their name
Best for: avoid — unless you have a buyer doing on-the-ground QC
The single most expensive mistake I see new importers make is paying Tier A prices to a Tier C/D supplier. Every section that follows is engineered to prevent that.
This is the checklist our customers use after they have tried us against three other "factories." Run it on every supplier — including us.
Schedule a WhatsApp video call. Ask to see: cutting tables, industrial sewing machines (a real collar factory has 30+ flat-bed and bartack machines), the hardware bin (zinc-alloy buckles in bulk), packaging line, finished-goods warehouse. A trader cannot fake this. We do this call free, any time during Shenzhen business hours — message us on WhatsApp +86 155 2623 8227.
Ask for the Business License (the official Chinese government registration document every legitimate factory holds). It will show: registered capital, business scope (should explicitly include pet products manufacturing), legal representative, and registration date. A factory registered less than 3 years ago is not necessarily bad, but combine with Step 3.
Take the address on the business license, paste it into Google Maps or Amap (China's domestic mapping service). You should see an industrial building, loading bays, signage. A residential address or a "creative park" co-working address is a red flag.
SGS, REACH, ROHS, GRS, BSCI — the test report must have the supplier's company name on the cover page, plus an SGS report number you can verify on sgs.com. A "general industry compliance" letter is worthless. Heyri Pet's reports cover specific fabric and metal SKUs, dated within 12 months.
Search the supplier's name on:
CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Administration) — patents.cnipa.gov.cn
EUIPO — euipo.europa.eu
UKIPO — gov.uk/search-registered-design
A supplier with 5+ design patents has invested in original design — that means lower copycat risk for your brand. We hold patents in all three jurisdictions.
Free samples are a marketing tool, not a quality signal. A serious factory charges $15–$60 per sample plus shipping because it covers fabric cutting, hardware, and operator time. We refund the sample fee on first PO over $2,000. If a supplier offers unlimited free samples, ask yourself who is paying for them — usually it is the buyer who orders bulk and gets downgraded fabric.
For a dog collar, check:
Stitch density — minimum 8 stitches per inch on the main seam, no skipped stitches
Bartack reinforcement — every D-ring attachment must be bartacked, not just box-stitched
Hardware — zinc alloy buckles should ring when tapped, plastic buckles should be POM (Delrin), not generic PP
Edge finish — folded under and double-stitched, no raw fabric showing
Fabric hand — velvet should have a uniform pile direction; corduroy ridges should be straight and even
Smell test — fresh-from-China samples should smell like fabric, not chemicals. Heavy solvent smell = high VOC, will fail REACH testing
Ask: "Show me a recent bill of lading (B/L) or air waybill (AWB) with the importer's name redacted." A real exporter has 50+ shipments per year and can produce one in minutes. We can show inbound shipments to Amazon FBA centers (FTW1, ONT8, SMF3 routes are weekly for us).
Minimum Order Quantity is the most misunderstood number in this industry. Let me explain how it actually works.
Every collar SKU requires:
Fabric — typically sold by the roll (100–500 meters minimum from the mill)
Hardware — D-rings and buckles ordered in lots of 1,000–5,000
Trim and packaging — printed bags/cards have a setup fee
Machine setup — re-threading a sewing line for a new color takes 20–40 minutes
If you order 10 pieces, the per-unit overhead is 10x what it is at 200 pieces. The factory either loses money or charges you a price that makes the unit economics impossible for your business.
Customization Tier | MOQ per SKU | What's Included |
Stock SKU (our existing design + color) | 50 pcs | Heyri-branded hangtag, polybag |
Stock SKU + Custom Hangtag/Card | 100 pcs | Your tag design, our polybag |
Stock Design + Custom Color (any Pantone) | 200 pcs | Fabric dyed to your Pantone, hangtag |
Full Custom (your sketch / new pattern) | 500 pcs | Custom fabric print, custom hardware, custom packaging |
Bundle SKUs — order 50 pcs each across 4 colors of the same model = 200 pcs total. Factory still hits the fabric roll minimum.
Combine with a sister category — collar + matching leash + bowtie set (we group these as Collar & Leash Sets) reduces dead inventory for us, so we share the savings.
Accept stock fabric — Heyri's striped corduroy library (Red / Brown / Orange / Yellow / White / Black) is exclusive to our mill, but already woven — no roll minimum. You can buy 50 pcs.
Sample order ≠ first PO — we accept 1–5 piece sample orders before the 50-piece bulk. Don't confuse the two when comparing suppliers.
If a supplier says "no MOQ, even 1 piece is fine," they are either: (a) dropshipping from a Yiwu market and you have no quality control, or (b) charging you 3–4x the real wholesale price. Both end badly. Dropshipping is a legitimate model — but it has its own pricing (see our dropshipping article for the real math).
These are FOB Shenzhen prices for Heyri's main collar families at 500 pcs MOQ. Use them as a sanity check against any quote you receive — if someone is 40% cheaper, they are cutting fabric weight, hardware grade, or stitch density.

I have seen buyers lose deposits to scam factories and I have seen factories lose entire production runs to chargebacks. Here is the structure that works for everyone.
T/T (telegraphic transfer / wire) — 30% deposit before production, 70% balance before shipment. This is the global standard and best protected by Incoterms.
PayPal — under $5,000 only, buyer pays the 4.4% fee. Good for samples and first small orders.
Western Union — for orders under $3,000, mainly for sample fees from countries with banking restrictions.
Alipay (international) — available for buyers with Alipay business accounts, fee 0.6%.
L/C (Letter of Credit) — we accept for orders above $30,000 from buyers in countries with capital controls. Document fees and time make it inefficient for smaller wholesale orders.
Net 30/60/90 (open account) — not for new buyers. After 12+ months of clean orders and credit insurance via Sinosure, we can discuss.
The 30% deposit funds fabric and hardware purchase — we cannot reduce it without taking material risk
The 70% balance is paid against a photo / video QC report of the finished goods, before container loading
For first-time buyers we recommend a third-party inspection (QIMA, AsiaInspection, $250–$350) before paying the balance. We have nothing to hide from third-party inspectors.
Pay 100% upfront, especially to a personal bank account
Pay to a Hong Kong bank for a "mainland China factory" (legitimate, but adds verification step)
Skip the contract — every wholesale order should have a Purchase Order with SKU/qty/price/Incoterm/delivery date/quality spec
This is the single most-asked question after pricing: "How long until I can hold the product?"
You send us:
Product type and material (or pick from our stock catalog)
Size / width / color
Logo file (AI or high-res PNG) if custom
Quantity per sample (typically 1–3 pieces, max 5)
We send back a proforma invoice (PI) with sample fee, shipping cost, and total. Sample fees:
Stock SKU: $15 each + shipping
Custom color: $35 each + shipping
Full custom: $60–$120 each + shipping
Shipping is DHL Express, $35–$55 to most countries, 3–5 business days.
Pattern cutting, fabric pulling, hardware allocation. For custom colors, this is when we dye 0.5–1 meter of fabric.
Our sample line is staffed by senior sewers — different from the bulk line. They sew the sample, inspect it, and re-sew if anything is off.
I personally check every custom sample before it ships. If it does not match your brief, we re-sew (no extra charge, no extra time billed to you).
Tracking number sent same-day. DHL to North America: 3–4 days. EU: 3–5 days. UK: 4–5 days. Australia: 4 days.
Inspect, give feedback. We typically iterate once on the first sample (1–2 weeks per round), occasionally twice for complex custom. Final approved sample becomes the golden sample that bulk production must match.
50–200 pcs stock: 15 days
200–1,000 pcs stock + custom hangtag: 25 days
500–2,000 pcs full custom: 35 days
2,000–10,000 pcs full custom: 45 days
Once your collars leave Shenzhen, three things happen that affect your landed cost: ocean/air freight, import duty, and last-mile delivery. Get any of these wrong and your "cheap" China sourcing turns into a margin disaster.
FOB (Free on Board) — we deliver to Shenzhen/Yantian port, you handle the rest.
Best for: experienced importers with their own freight forwarder
Risk: you absorb all customs/duty/delivery complexity
EXW (Ex Works) — you collect from our factory door.
Best for: buyers consolidating multiple China factories in one container
Risk: you handle Chinese export customs too — extra paperwork
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) — we ship door-to-door, duties paid.
Best for: Amazon FBA sellers, first-time importers, Shopify dropshippers
Cost: $4.20–$6.80 per kg air, $0.45–$0.95 per kg sea (LCL), depending on destination
Includes: ocean/air freight + import customs + duty + last-mile to your address (or directly to Amazon FBA warehouse)
We default to DDP for buyers in USA, Canada, UK, EU, Australia. I have written a dedicated DDP Shipping Guide that breaks down the math.
Destination | HS Code 4201.00 (dog collar) | Notes |
USA | 2.4% MFN duty + Section 301 (25% list 3) | We handle HS classification, Section 301 exposure |
EU | 2.7% TARIC | GPSR-compliant labeling required from Dec 2024 |
UK | 2.7% UK GT | UKCA marking transitioning to CE-acceptance through 2027 |
Canada | 6.5% MFN | CBSA importer registration required |
Australia | 5% GST + 0% duty (free trade agreement) | ABN required for importer |
Commercial invoice (matches your PO)
Packing list (cartons, weight, CBM)
Bill of Lading or Air Waybill
Certificate of Origin (Form A or FTA Form E)
Material composition statement (for textile customs)
REACH/ROHS test report (on request)
If you are building a private-label pet brand, intellectual property is a moat you cannot ignore.
Amazon's Brand Registry, EU EUIPO, and UK IPO all reward original designs with stronger takedown rights. If your supplier hands you a design that is already someone else's registered patent, your listings get pulled and your brand is associated with infringement.
10+ design patents in China (CNIPA) — covering our Striped Corduroy color variants, Teddy Velvet pattern, Festival print series, Mini Poop Bag Holder, Cat Bow Tie dual-Velcro construction, AirTag Holder silicone shape
EUIPO Community Designs — protecting our flagship Velvet, Corduroy, and Fruit & Flower series in the EU/EEA
UKIPO Registered Designs — extending protection into the UK post-Brexit
Customer designs stay with the customer. If you commission a custom pattern with us, that design will never be sold to another buyer. We sign an NDA before any custom design work starts.
We pre-clear designs. Before we accept a custom project, our IP team checks CNIPA / EUIPO / USPTO for similar registered designs and flags risk before you invest.
We help you register. For private-label buyers we can introduce vetted IP agents in your jurisdiction.
Copy a competitor's branded design (Frenchie Bulldog Co, Fable, Wild One, etc.). If you send us a sample of a branded competitor and ask "make exactly this," we will redesign with sufficient differentiation or decline. Protecting our reputation protects yours.
Send this list to any supplier — including us. The speed and clarity of the answers will tell you everything.

I do not want this article to be a sales pitch, so I have put this section last. Here are the things our buyers tell us mattered most.
13 years of focus on dog and cat soft-goods accessories. We do not also make dog beds, food bowls, carriers — we do collars, leashes, harnesses, bowties, poop-bag holders. Specialization is the point.
88 active SKUs across 9 product families in stock, including 10 dog Collar & Leash Sets, 7 dog harness families, 15 dog leash families, 9 cat collar lines, and 6 cat bow-tie series.
Striped corduroy is mill-exclusive to Heyri in Red / Brown / Orange / Yellow / White / Black. Competitors cannot match it without 6-month custom weaving programs.
Dual factories — Shenzhen HQ (R&D, sample, QC, packaging) + Dongguan production base (bulk sewing). Total ~12,000 m².
800+ wholesale buyers across 40+ countries. From Petco/Chewy private-label SKUs to single-store boutiques in Berlin to Etsy bestseller shops.
DDP shipping standard — we file customs, pay duties, deliver to your door or Amazon FBA warehouse. No surprise bills.
Member of Shenzhen Stray Animal Protection Association. 1% of net profit goes to local TNR programs.
Patent-protected designs across CN, EU, UK.
No Alibaba intermediation. We sell direct so you get factory pricing and direct technical contact — message me or our sales team and you reach the people actually making your product.
Our MOQ starts at 50 pieces per SKU for stock items (existing design + existing color). For custom colors the MOQ is 200 pieces, and for fully custom designs (your sketch or new pattern) it is 500 pieces. You can mix multiple stock SKUs to hit MOQ — for example, 50 pieces each across 4 colors of the same collar model.
Wholesale dog collars from our factory range from $1.65 to $7.20 FOB Shenzhen depending on material. Classic velvet starts at $1.65, striped corduroy at $1.95, genuine leather at $4.50. Hardware engraving, custom packaging, and gift boxes add $0.20–$1.60 per unit. Sea freight DDP adds roughly $0.40–$0.90 per piece to North America and EU.
Use the 8-step verification process in this guide: (1) live factory video walkthrough, (2) cross-check business license, (3) verify address against satellite imagery, (4) request certifications in the supplier's name, (5) check design patents on CNIPA/EUIPO/UKIPO, (6) order paid samples, (7) inspect stitch density and hardware quality, (8) verify export experience via Bill of Lading. A real manufacturer can satisfy all 8 within 48 hours.
The global standard is T/T (telegraphic transfer / wire) with 30% deposit before production and 70% balance before shipment. PayPal is accepted for orders under $5,000, Western Union for under $3,000, and Alipay International for buyers with Alipay business accounts. Never pay 100% upfront to a personal bank account. For first-time large orders, a third-party inspection (QIMA, AsiaInspection) before paying the balance adds insurance for $250–$350.
Most serious manufacturers charge $15–$60 per sample plus shipping. The fee covers fabric cutting, hardware, and operator time. At Heyri Pet, we refund the sample fee on the first PO over $2,000. A supplier offering unlimited free samples is usually downgrading fabric quality to recover the cost on bulk orders — beware.
Lead times depend on quantity and customization: stock SKUs at 50–200 pieces take 15 days, 200–1,000 stock pieces with custom hangtag take 25 days, 500–2,000 fully custom pieces take 35 days, and 2,000–10,000 fully custom pieces take 45 days. Add 4–7 days for DHL air sample shipping or 25–35 days for sea shipping (DDP).
DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) means the supplier handles ocean/air freight, import customs, import duty, and last-mile delivery to your door or Amazon FBA warehouse. For pet accessories from China to USA expect $4.20–$6.80 per kg air or $0.45–$0.95 per kg sea (LCL). DDP is worth it for first-time importers, Amazon FBA sellers, and Shopify dropshippers because it eliminates customs surprise bills. Experienced importers with their own freight forwarder can save 8–15% on FOB instead.
Dog collars under HS code 4201.00 currently fall on Section 301 List 3, carrying a 25% additional tariff on top of the 2.4% MFN duty when imported into the USA. The tariff applies to the FOB value plus shipping. We factor Section 301 into our DDP quotes so buyers see the all-in landed cost up front. The 2026 USTR review may adjust List 3; we update quotes accordingly.
Yes. Before any custom design work starts, we sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement covering your design files, brand identity, and order details. Customer custom designs are never sold to another buyer — that is our core policy. We also pre-clear custom designs against CNIPA, EUIPO, and USPTO databases to flag IP infringement risk before you invest in tooling.
For global markets the essential stack is: SGS (third-party quality and safety testing), REACH (EU chemical compliance — restricted substances), ROHS (electronics-grade restriction, applicable to metal hardware), and GRS (Global Recycled Standard, for recycled polyester products). Add BSCI for ethical-trade audits if you sell to Petco, Chewy, or EU retail chains. Heyri Pet holds all four product certifications plus BSCI factory audit.
Yes. We label every unit with your FNSKU, polybag with suffocation warning (1.5-mil clear LDPE), apply your hangtag, and pack in master cartons with Amazon-compliant carton labels and DOT placards if required. FBA prep adds approximately $0.22 per unit. We ship DDP directly to FBA warehouses including FTW1, ONT8, SMF3, BNA1, MDW9, IND9, and EU FBA centers.
Plain zinc-alloy buckles are included in base pricing. Engraved buckles with your logo add $0.25–$0.45 per piece at an MOQ of 500. Color-coated buckles (gold, rose gold, matte black) add $0.30 per piece at an MOQ of 300. Custom-shape buckles (your sketch) require a one-time tooling fee of $480 plus $0.65 per piece at MOQ 1,000. We sample the engraving on plain stock collars first so you can approve before bulk.
For 2026 the volume leaders are: velvet (year-round, $1.65–$2.85), striped corduroy (Q3–Q1, our mill-exclusive ranges), and teddy velvet (anti-static, Q4 winter capsule). Plaid and fruit/flower prints lead Q2–Q3 for boutique pet stores. Leather is a smaller-volume premium category targeting boutique and gift markets. For full material comparison see our Dog Collar Materials Guide.
Yes. Every Heyri Pet collar SKU has a matching leash (120cm × same width) and most have a matching harness in the same fabric family. We sell Dog Collar & Leash Sets (collar + leash + bow tie + poop bag holder), individual standalone collars, leashes, harnesses, and accessories. Buyers ordering matched sets save 5–8% versus piece-by-piece quoting. See our Dog Collar & Leash Sets catalog page.
Three ways: (1) WhatsApp +86 155 2623 8227 with your product list and shipping address, (2) email sales01@heyripet.com with the same, or (3) submit the inquiry form on our Contact Us page. We respond within 12 working hours (Shenzhen time, UTC+8) with a proforma invoice. Sample lead time is 5–10 days from payment + 3–5 days DHL.
Six high-frequency defects: (1) skipped stitches on the main seam, (2) D-ring attachment box-stitched instead of bartacked, (3) uneven velvet pile direction, (4) misaligned corduroy ridges, (5) hardware showing nickel content (REACH-restricted) — test by rubbing with a damp white cloth, (6) chemical odor from solvent-bonded edges. Reject any lot exceeding AQL 2.5 on major defects.
Yes. We ship DDP directly to all major Amazon FBA centers in USA (FTW1, ONT8, SMF3, MDW9, BNA1, IND9), Canada (YYZ4), UK (LTN4, MAN2), EU (DTM2, FRA9, MUC3), and Australia (MEL3). FBA-ready prep is included for $0.22 per unit. Air shipment to FBA: 7–10 days. Sea (LCL): 30–40 days door-to-warehouse including customs.
Yes. For Shopify and Etsy sellers we have a mixed-SKU starter program: minimum 200 pieces total spread across any combination of our stock SKUs (e.g., 50 velvet collars + 50 corduroy collars + 50 leashes + 50 bow ties). This lets new sellers test multiple ranges without committing to a full SKU MOQ. Lead time is 15 days, DDP shipping included. Contact us at sales01@heyripet.com for the starter PI.
Email sales01@heyripet.com or message WhatsApp +86 155 2623 8227 with the subject "2026 Wholesale Catalog" and your business name + country. We send a PDF catalog with all 9 product families, current FOB prices, MOQ by SKU, available materials and colorways, plus our certification stack and recent customer case studies. Catalog is updated monthly.
