Pet dropshipping is one of the most-promised, least-explained business models on the internet. Course sellers tell you "$10K/month with one Shopify store," and the result is thousands of identical stores selling identical $3 collars from the same five Yiwu warehouses. Most fail in 90 days.
Here is what is actually true:
Pet dropshipping CAN work — but only with a differentiated supplier, a non-saturated niche, and 4-8 months of patient brand building. Not 90 days.
The hardest part is not finding a "supplier" — it is finding one who can ship one piece at a time from China with tag replacement, your branded packaging, REAL product photos you can use, and consistent product quality. That supplier is rare.
The economics work at 2.5x-4x markup, not the 5x-10x course gurus promise. Above 4x, your conversion rate drops below 1.5% and PPC kills your margin.
Aesthetic pet niches (velvet collars, cat bow ties, themed sets) still have white space. Generic nylon collars, retractable leashes, and "tactical" harnesses do not.
Temu and Shein are NOT viable supplier sources for resale — they will not do tag replacement, photo licensing, or volume discounts.

In a properly structured pet dropship arrangement, the flow looks like this:
You collect payment at retail price (e.g., $24.99 for a velvet dog collar)

Of the thousands of suppliers on Alibaba claiming "dropshipping support," fewer than 5% can execute the workflow above. Here is what to look for.
1. Single-piece fulfillment (no MOQ per order)
A real dropship supplier ships 1 piece at a time from stock. If they say "MOQ 50 pieces for dropshipping," they are not a real dropshipper — they are a wholesaler trying to monetize dropshippers.
2. Tag replacement at no extra unit cost
The supplier should remove their hangtag and apply yours for $0.10-$0.30 per unit (or free if order volume justifies it). At Heyri Pet, tag replacement is free for partners who clear 30+ orders per month.
3. Custom polybag or polybag sticker
Your customer should never see "Heyri Pet" or "made in China" on the polybag. Either: (a) you supply printed polybag artwork (MOQ 500 polybags, ~$0.18 each), or (b) supplier uses generic white-label polybag and applies your sticker.
4. Photo asset licensing
Your supplier must give you commercial rights to use their product photos on your store. We license our high-resolution product photo library (4000+ images across 88 SKUs) to dropship partners. Many Yiwu/Alibaba suppliers will not — meaning you have to commission your own photography ($1,500-$3,500 per niche).
5. Real-time inventory sync
If you list a SKU on Shopify and the supplier is out of stock when the order comes in, you have an angry customer and a cancelled order. Your supplier needs to share daily stock counts. We send a CSV every Monday morning to dropship partners.
6. Returns handling
What happens when a customer returns the product? Real supplier offers: (a) return to a US warehouse address (we have a CA forwarder), (b) credit back at 50-75% of wholesale value, (c) ship a replacement directly. Yiwu suppliers usually just say "return to China" which is uneconomic for the customer.
7. NO platform conflict policy
The supplier should NOT compete with you by selling the same SKU on their own Shopify, Amazon, or TikTok store. We do not do retail — we are wholesale and dropship only, by design.
8. NO selling to Temu / Shein
This is a hard policy at Heyri Pet: we do not list our designs on Temu or Shein, and we do not provide tag-replacement service for Temu or Shein sellers. Those platforms encourage race-to-bottom pricing that destroys our brand partners' margins. We explicitly say no to those resellers.

Why pure dropshipping does NOT work on Amazon:
Amazon prohibits "drop ship" where the supplier ships in their own branding — sellers risk account suspension

However, FBA-supplied dropshipping (where you stock inventory at FBA and ship from your account) works — but that is technically not dropshipping, it is FBA wholesale

Your product photos drive 60-70% of conversion. Three things go wrong here.
Most Alibaba/Yiwu suppliers' photos are themselves stolen from somewhere else (the original brand, a photographer they did not pay, etc.). When you use them, you inherit the legal liability. We have seen Etsy stores get DMCA'd because their supplier's "free" photos were stolen.

If you use the same "white-background velvet collar" photo as 50 other Shopify stores, your conversion suffers. The fix: commission 3-5 lifestyle shots with your specific brand context ($800-$2,500 from a Fiverr Pro pet photographer or in your own location). These photos become your competitive moat.
In 2026, organic discovery on TikTok and Instagram Reels requires video. Static photos alone are not enough. We provide 50+ short video clips, but you should also commission 1-2 30-second hero videos per quarter ($400-$1,200 each).
Many courses recommend "use Temu / Shein as your dropship supplier." This is a bad idea and we explicitly do not service this model. Here is why.
Temu and Shein price aggressively to crush competition. A $4.99 dog collar on Temu cannot be resold profitably on Shopify at $14.99 because:
Customers cross-shop and find your collar on Temu for $4.99
Your perceived value crashes
Returns spike when customers feel cheated
Temu's pet collars come from 30+ different Yiwu/Guangzhou workshops with no consistent quality standard. You ordered a velvet collar with zinc-alloy buckle — you might receive plastic. Customer service becomes a nightmare.
Temu and Shein ship in Temu/Shein branded packaging. Your customer receives a Temu polybag. They learn instantly that you are reselling Temu products. Your brand dies in 1 transaction.
If you have an issue with a Temu order, you talk to Temu customer service — not your "supplier." There is no relationship to escalate to. The chain breaks.
Many Temu and Shein pet products are direct knockoffs of branded designs (Frenchie Bulldog Co, Wild One, Fable, etc.). Reselling them on Shopify exposes you to DMCA takedowns and IP lawsuits.
We do not provide tag-replacement service to Temu / Shein sellers. We do not allow our designs to be relisted on Temu / Shein. We do not service resellers who buy from Temu and want to "private-label" the products. Our brand value depends on protecting the buyers who source directly from us.

After 3 months with clean payment history: Net-15 with PayPal or T/T, with a credit limit assigned based on order history (typically $500-$5,000). No. Amazon explicitly prohibits drop-shipping where the supplier ships in their own branding to the end customer. Instead, we recommend the FBA-supplied dropshipping model: order 100-500 pieces of your top SKUs from Heyri DDP-to-FBA at $0.22/unit prep, then ship from your FBA account.
